I heard you have to be over ELO 2000 and a non-criminal. I fit those criteria, so I was wondering what I should do to get this certification. I've been teaching scholastic players for over half a decade in Cincinnati, OH. From: "Michelle E. Roberts" Subject: various clubs Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 15:00:41 -0500 Let me see if I can answer your questions. (1) I do not know how I can help you find a site for your club. All I could suggest is as follows: coffee shops, books stores with cafe's, public libraries, are usually in the market to have a chess club meeting place. coffeeshops especially because you'll be quiet AND buy coffee. But I don't have any ideas beyong that. (2) Any new affiliates will be able to purchase equiptment/supplies at the discounted member price. club promo items (posters, pamphlets, membership forms, etc) is free, with a written request. (3) Scholastic clubs (schools, libraries, homeschools) are eligible for our Chess For Youth Program, which gives free chess boards and sets to schools in need. You just need to fill out an application, and have a letter verifying that the club exists, from the principal, on school letter-head. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me. I hope this info has been helpful. Sincerely, Michelle Roberts (845)562-8350 ext 130 From: "Michelle E. The posters we have are not giant color glossy deals, so don't get overly excited. The posters are on stiff legal-sized green paper. They look nice. If you want to give me your mailing address, I can send you the application for Chess for Youth, and whatever cool freebies I can round up. Now, a secondary question - I've been using such spots, but I've always wondered: Don't some of these public-store-type places have a problem with club memberships and entry fees (gambling?)? Some schools have sticky provisions that students play free, for example. >(2) Any new affiliates will be able to purchase equiptment/supplies at the >discounted member price. club promo items (posters, pamphlets, membership >forms, etc) is free, with a written request. Really? Posters? I'd like some of those for The People's Chess Club, I think. >(3) Scholastic clubs (schools, libraries, homeschools) are eligible for our >Chess For Youth Program, which gives free chess boards and sets to schools >in need.
